Who am I?

"Insane Erik Lane's Stupid World" is a cathartic outlet for all of the inane, stupid, and boneheaded examples that take place every day. Stories that make your scratch your head & wonder "What is this world coming to?" will be featured, mocked, and commented about in the episodes that drop about twice each week! I work in the broadcast media and have stories that cross my path daily on the stupid criminal that practically leads the authorities to the crime, boneheaded stunts that results in the trip to the hospital ER, and ridiculous ideas that are dreamed up in boardrooms and council chambers. So I created this podcast because I needed an outlet to these stories because I was going insane having them crowd inside my head. I have a natural gift of sarcasm and wit that has been honed over the 44+ years I've worked in radio. I love commentators and comedians who take instances of everyday life and turn it into a sarcastic monologue. I have even done frequent "bonehead awards" stories on my radio show that spotlight some real stupidity. However, some of these stores are just so outrageous and unbelievable, I can't even talk about them on the radio due to FCC regulations! Having this podcast to elaborate on them gives me the freedom to speak unhindered about the sheer stupidity of the stories. And I have no filters in expressing my opinion about some of the crazy stuff that's out there...and some might just get their feathers ruffled at my bluntness describing it.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My podcast is curated from all of the stories reported throughout the week that reflect the sheer volume of stupidity from around the world. Not all stories can qualify for being included in an episode, even though it is about some stupid incident. I am looking for over the top stupidity that goes above and beyond the normal expectation of stunts that go beyond the limits of sanity. If it has a shock factor, that's an extra bonus. The stories have to trigger a mental picture of how ridiculous the situation is.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I'm looking at the content of the stupidity not just a chance to use vulgar language or have a play on some sexual innuendo. This doesn't mean that there is no incidents of inappropriate words or phrases, they are used for humor, emphasis, or express. The stories have to highlight the content of the stupidity not just the colorful description of the stupid act.

3. Dumb People Town

Why this podcast?

I always love finding podcasts that are better than mine so I can improve my own craft. The stories on this podcast are awesome... Although the one critique I have is that just because the stories are stupid, it is not the opportunity to be more stupid than the story you are talking about. I tend to feel that inappropriate words and phrases should be nouns or verbs instead of adjectives!

4. Dennis Miller: 30 Years Ahead of the Curve

Why this podcast?

Dennis Miller can look a stupidity and can make comments that are dry as dust! His deadpan take has always been what has drawn me to his humor. He's a little heavy on unnecessary use of swear words and inappropriate language but I can usually filter through a lot of that.

Long before social media outrage, Dennis Miller was calling it like he saw it—sharp, unfiltered, and a little too accurate for comfort. 30 Years Ahead of the Curve is a curated collection of his most cutting observations from his '90s show, Dennis Miller Live, each one landing with eerie relevance today. These aren't just rants—they're time-traveling truths, delivered in front of a live studio audience with Dennis' signature wit and whip-smart insight. Turns out, hindsight sounds a lot like Dennis in real time. More comedy from Spotted Dog Entertainment: https://linktr.ee/ClickHereForComedy

5. The Babylon Bee

Why this podcast?

The irreverent take at the stupidity of culture cannot get any better than The Bee! They can be hilariously funny and I never have to prepare myself for any inappropriate language. Their clever use of the English language to communicate an idea through sarcasm and wit make the stupidity they report even that much more hilarious!
