In this episode of Obsessed, we talk all things, hormones, aging, pregnancy, and everything in between. We are continually inspired by the works of our favorite researcher and badass Brene Brown.
Author and researcher Brene Brown writes, “We associate vulnerability with emotions that we want to avoid such as fear, shame, and uncertainty, yet we often lose sight of the fact that vulnerability is also the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, authenticity, and love.”
At 55, Neeahtima Dowdy realized it’s still possible to reinvent herself into the woman of her dreams. And she shares how we can still be confident, fabulous, and powerful regardless of our age in this episode.
Midlife is often viewed as a time when women hit a crossroads. They may start to feel invisible; they are losing their marketable quality, relationships, and professional aspirations.
But more and more women like Neeahtima are choosing to buck the midlife stereotypes and embrace this stage of life. Whether by starting their own businesses, traveling the world, or simply enjoying newfound hobbies and passions, more and more women are redefining what it means to be in this stage of life.
There’s no one right way to approach aging, but women are doing it their way and rocking it. From making lifestyle changes to improving self-confidence, Neeahtima proves that there is no age limit on happiness or success – and she continues to inspire others to do the same. She talks about how she’s thriving in midlife and gives valuable pieces of advice for those who may be feeling stuck.
Neeahtima is the creator and host of We’re Not Dead Yet: Women Rocking their Next Chapter, a YouTube series where she inspires women over 40, 50, 60, and beyond to step out of their comfort zone and reinvent themselves, discover new talents, or find their passion.

In our society, we learn from others that our emotions are bad, and we need to tough it out, power through, and be all smiles and sunshine.
We learn to bottle up our emotions, eventually turning into shame or guilt. We don't know how to deal with them, so we shove them away and ignore them until they come back louder than ever before.
When we're feeling our emotions, we might feel like we need to get rid of them as quickly as possible or that they make us a problem that needs fixing. But this must not be the case! What if we could actually allow ourselves to feel any emotion, positive and negative, that comes up for us?
Our guest, Sarah Plowman, tells us that emotions exist for a reason: to tell us something important about ourselves and our lives. When we become blocked from our feelings, we might act out in ways harmful to ourselves or others. To understand what they're trying to tell us, Sarah shares with us how to be in touch with our emotions without the need to suppress them.
Sarah is a stay-at-home-mom and a 6-figure business coach who helps people become incredible entrepreneurs, elevating all areas of their lives through being more self-confident, self-assured, and authentic human beings.
