In 1959, 9 people were hiking through the Ural Mountains in Russia. Night was approaching, so they pitched a tent and settled for the night. What happened next is debated, but what we know for sure is that during the night, all 9 of them fled the safety of their tent, into the snowy darkness, and perished in the freezing conditions. Some had succumbed to hypothermia, but others were found with gruesome injuries. These injuries, along with circumstances surrounding their deaths and the lack of answers, led to conspiracy theories that spanned from aliens to radiation fallout.
