In 1959, 9 people were hiking through the Ural Mountains in Russia. Night was approaching, so they pitched a tent and settled for the night. What happened next is debated, but what we know for sure is that during the night, all 9 of them fled the safety of their tent, into the snowy darkness, and perished in the freezing conditions. Some had succumbed to hypothermia, but others were found with gruesome injuries. These injuries, along with circumstances surrounding their deaths and the lack of answers, led to conspiracy theories that spanned from aliens to radiation fallout.

In part 3, the final episode of the Dyatlov Pass series, we discuss the funerals of the hikers, the investigation and inquest into the hiker’s deaths, and some of the theories about what happened to Dyatlov Group that fateful night...

On December 25, 1971, rescue planes flew above the Peruvian jungle searching for LANSA Flight 508, which had disappeared the day before in a thunderstorm. It was nearly impossible for searchers to locate any signs of a wreckage through the dense forest, but they were certain they were looking for plane remnants and bodies. The chances that anyone could survive a crash from miles in the sky was surely impossible. Little did they know, a passenger was gaining consciousness on the forest floor, and readying herself to trek out of the wildly diverse and unpredictable jungle area of the Amazon Rainforest. Today we’re talking about the survival story of 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke, the sole survivor of the deadliest lightning-strike disaster in aviation history.
