The best podcasts for Cybersecurity Practitioners Moving From Findings to Decisions

Who am I?
I’m Rutvi Vadera, and I lead growth at Z Cyber, a practitioner-led cybersecurity firm. My work sits between security expertise and the business audiences it needs to influence. I spend a lot of time listening to how CISOs explain risk, how CFOs interpret it, how boards govern it, and where good recommendations stall. I am drawn to conversations grounded in actual operating experience, especially those that move beyond fear, headlines, and tools to examine judgment, communication, ownership, and execution. Working alongside security leaders has shown me that the hardest part is not always discovering risk. It is deciding what matters first, helping others understand it, negotiating budget and trade-offs, and making sure someone owns what happens next. That insight shaped both The Blind Spot and this list. I wanted a collection for practitioners who understand the technical stakes but want to become better at influencing the decisions surrounding them. These are shows I would recommend to anyone trying to grow from a strong security specialist into a more effective cross-functional leader.
What is my podcast playlist about?
This playlist is about the work surrounding the technical work: communicating with executives, gaining buy-in, challenging assumptions, learning from peers, and turning risk into action. The shows vary from focused debates to longer leadership conversations, but each gives practitioners something they can use in a real meeting. This is not primarily a cybersecurity news playlist. It is for people who want to understand how security decisions are actually made inside organizations.
1. The Blind Spot
Why this podcast?
Full disclosure: I lead growth at Z Cyber, which produces The Blind Spot. I included it because it was created for the exact problem that inspired this list. It starts after risk becomes visible and asks what happens next. The opening conversations cover why boards and CISOs talk past each other, what a CFO hears when security says “risk,” and how AI compounds existing technology and governance debt. Host Jason Lee brings a practitioner’s perspective and gives guests room to be candid about mistakes, trade-offs, and lessons. It is especially useful for listeners trying to translate sound security judgment into a decision someone can fund, own, and defend.

The Blind Spot
Hosted by Jason Lee, Managing Director at Z Cyber
Security teams aren't short on findings. The hard part is turning those findings into decisions the business can actually act on, fund, and own.
The Blind Spot is a cybersecurity podcast built around what happens after risk becomes visible. Not the audit checklist. Not the scan results. The judgment calls, translation gaps, and remediation work that determine whether risk actually changes.
Each episode is a practitioner conversation with CISOs, executives, board advisors, operators, and risk leaders working at the intersection of cybersecurity, business decisions, and accountability. We cover boardroom communication, AI governance, healthcare security, cyber insurance, and what it actually takes to go from assessment to action.
Every episode closes the same way: "What is the one thing you wish the other side of the conversation understood?"
New episodes every two weeks.

2. Defense in Depth
Why this podcast?
I picked Defense in Depth because it takes one contested cybersecurity question and examines it from multiple practitioner perspectives. Instead of pretending there is one universal answer, the show uses community input and experienced guests to expose the trade-offs behind different positions. That makes it useful for leaders who need to form an opinion, defend it, and understand why reasonable people may disagree. Its focused weekly format also makes it easy to take one issue into a team discussion or leadership meeting.

3. CISO Series Podcast
Why this podcast?
CISO Series Podcast is valuable because it deals directly with the relationship between security practitioners, buyers, and vendors. It brings humor to conversations that can otherwise become stiff or overly polished, while still addressing real questions about security leadership, industry dynamics, and how practitioners evaluate solutions. I recommend it to anyone who wants a candid view of how cybersecurity decisions are discussed on both sides of the buying table.
