On the afternoon of Sunday 12 July 2020, 38-year-old Kerry Woolley was found dead inside her own flat, in the West Midlands of England.

It was her new partner who raised the alarm. A man she had been seeing for a matter of weeks.

He stood outside the building, and he called 999.

And when officers arrived, he was distraught. The grieving partner, who had come to check on her — and walked into something no one should ever have to see.

Word went round that street fast, and the neighbourhood was shocked. This was a quiet, ordinary place, and no one believed someone could have done this.

But in the days that followed, investigators found something suspicious.

Footage of a man. Standing at a canal bridge not far from her home. Throwing something into the water.

And when that canal was dredged, they pulled out the weapon that had been used to kill her.
