Tremper Longman III joins us once more, this time to discuss how LGBTQ+ issues are handled in the Church! Joshua Noel and TJ (Tiberius Juan) Blackwell ask Dr Longman about the many different positions churches have taken on issues like whether we should be affirming or not of same-sex marriages, how welcoming we should be to those in these lifestyles, whether the Church should affirm people who are transexual, or whether people in the Church should use the preferred pronouns of those we are speaking to

.

Why is homosexuality a sin if being gay is just who I am? Is it REALLY ok to be LGBTQ & Christian? What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Can my church be welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community without being affirming? Should Christians be respectful of people's chosen pronouns? How do we know what to believe about same-sex desires? Is homosexuality okay in the Church? Where does the Bible say that being gay is a sin?

.

In this episode, we will:

  • Discuss the different positions in the Church concerning the LGBTQ+ community
  • Explain the Biblical case against same-sex relationships
  • Deconstruct the behaviors of those in the Church towards LGBTQ+ peoples
  • Wrestle with questions of how to treat those who are different from ourselves

Previous Episode

Baptism and the Lord's Supper / the Eucharist have become hot topic / divisive issues in the Church today. Professor Chris Moreland, of the Catholic tradition, joins Joshua Noel and TJ (Tiberius Juan) Blackwell to discuss these topics and more! We discuss how many practices we each consider to be sacramental, how these sacraments should be partaken of in our opinions, and how much room there is for disagreements in our minds.

.

Is unity possible when we don't agree on these core acts within the Christian faith? What are the 7 sacraments in order and meaning? What do the sacraments mean? What is the sacrament called? Why do Christians do sacraments? Why are they called sacraments? Why did Jesus create the sacraments? Are sacraments just Catholic? What are sacraments in the Bible? What is the purpose of baptism? What happens when you get baptized? What did Jesus say about baptism? What is the meaning of the Eucharist? What is difference between Eucharist and Communion? What is the meaning of full immersion baptism? Do Catholics do full immersion baptism? Why do some churches practice baby baptism?

.

In this episode, we will:

  • Discuss differing opinions on what counts as a sacrament
  • Explore different ideas around the sacrament of baptism
  • Explain the meaning of the elements in Eucharist / the Lord's Supper
  • Construct an idea for how to maintain unity in the midst of these disagreements

I'm joined this week by Joshua Noel of The Whole Church Podcast (https://the-whole-church-podcast.captivate.fm/) to discuss Genesis 35 & 36.

Can we agree on how scripture works if one doesn't take it as literally as another? How does the fallout of Dinah's situation effect the family of Jacob and her? Why did they need to get rid of their idols on the trip to Bethel? How did God protect them from reprisal as they went to Bethel? Why did God rename Jacob as Israel again? What is a drink offering? How did the death of Rachel while giving birth to Benjamin effect the whole family for years to come? Who are the descendants of Esau and why are they focused on in scripture? Can we learn anything from genealogies? How many times can Christian call Joshua a heretic?
