This week we're joined by comedian and host of many podcasts Dan Cummins! Dan Cummins - Dan Cummins is a stand-up comedian and podcast host. His first comedy album, Revenge is Near, distributed by Warner Bros. Records, was ranked as one of the top 10 comedy CDs of 2009 by Punchline Magazine. His first hour-long special for Comedy Central, titled Crazy With A Capital F, premiered on May 29, 2010. He was a co-host for The Playboy Morning Show and has hosted his own podcasts, Timesuck, since 2016 and Scared to Death, with his wife Lynze, since 2019. In 2000, Cummins performed at the open mic of the now-defunct Laugh’s Comedy Cafe inside the Season Ticket bar near the Spokane Arena. In 2001, Cummins entered the Seattle Comedy Competition, finishing as runner-up. There he met David Crowe, with whom he formed a two-man stand-up and variety act, COBDOG, (Crowe On Bass, Dan On Guitar), the highlight of which was having a radio-friendly version of one of their sketches, titled "At The Coffee Shop," making The Bob & Tom Show best-of CD, Bob And Tom Gone Wild. The duo split in 2003. In 2005, Cummins performed at the New Faces showcase at the Just For Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival, catching the attention of both Comedy Central and The Late Late Show talent booker. In 2006, Cummins performed on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, his first performance recorded for television. A month later, he made his network television debut, performing on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Also, in 2006, he performed at his second major festival, the HBO Las Vegas Comedy Festival. The year 2007 started off with Cummins performing at the Comedy Central South Beach Comedy Festival and then booking approximately 100 college dates at the NACA Nationals college booking convention in Nashville. Cummins then recorded his first televised stand-up special, Comedy Central Presents Dan Cummins, in August at the Hudson Theater in New York. In 2008, Cummins performed at nearly 100 schools and also advanced to the semi-finals of Last Comic Standing, Season 6. In 2009, Dan’s Comedy Central Presents was voted third favorite by fans in Comedy Central’s annual Standup Showdown. Shortly after, Comedy Central bought the rights to air a one-hour special. On October 17, 2009, in front of a sold-out audience at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane, Washington, Cummins recorded his first one-hour Comedy Central special, Crazy With A Capital F. It's initial showing on Comedy Central aired May 29, 2010. The accompanying CD was released on May 25, 2010; the DVD version was released on June 8, 2010. Later in June 2009, Cummins performed at the second-annual Rooftop Comedy Aspen Comedy Festival. He made two additional television appearances in 2009, appearing on an episode of Byron Allen’s Comedy.TV, and on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien the day before Thanksgiving. The year 2009 also included the release of Cummins' first nationally distributed CD, Revenge is Near, on June 23 via Warner Brothers Records. It peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Comedy Charts, and Punchlinemagazine.com put it in their top 10 list for the best comedy CDs of 2009. In 2010, Cummins appeared in season two of G4’s The International Ladies Show, and has moved to Santa Monica, California, where he began working with Creative Artists Agency. Cummins also attempted to produce several television projects. Since early-2009, filmmaker Mike Newman has been filming an ongoing documentary on Cummins’ stand-up career. We have a BIG episode for you today! We sit down with the president of the Houston Texans and writer of the 'The Winning Gameplan' Jamey Rootes! Jamey Rootes - Jamey Rootes has been one of Houston's leading executives for more than two decades. He currently serves as President of the Houston Texans and is responsible for all business functions of the club. Since joining the Texans, Rootes has overseen the team's efforts to secure stadium-naming rights and sponsorship, coordinated radio and TV broadcasting relationships, engineered the club's successful ticket and suite sales campaigns, led the creation and launch of the team's identity, and developed the team's highly acclaimed customer service strategy. Under Rootes' leadership, the Texans have earned many distinctions, including numerous "Crystal Awards" and most recently two American Business Awards for marketing excellence. J.D. Power & Associates recognized the team for providing the best fan experience in the NFL and featured the Texans as a service success story in their book entitled "Satisfaction." The Texans were also recognized with Sports Business Journal's PRISM Award, which is given annually to the top major professional sports team based on business excellence criteria. In 2019, the Texans extended their sellout streak to 185 consecutive home games – a Houston NFL record and a testament to the quality of service and entertainment provided by the organization on gameday. As a result, the Texans have consistently been recognized as one of the most valuable professional sports franchises both in the NFL and globally, as measured by a variety of business publications. Rootes also serves as President of Lone Star Sports & Entertainment (LSSE), a sports management agency associated with the Texans. LSSE has been a catalyst for some of Houston's most significant sporting events. Under Rootes' leadership, LSSE created and now manages the Texas Bowl, Houston's annual college football bowl game, as well as the Texas Kickoff, an annual college football game. In addition to college football games, Rootes has overseen the production of many soccer games put on by LSSE such as COPA America in 2016, the Manchester Derby in 2017, and an International Champions Cup match between global soccer powers Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in 2019. Sports Business Journal twice selected Rootes as a member of its distinguished "Forty Under 40" list of leading sports executives, and in 2014 he was named a finalist for the Global Sports Executive of the Year by the Stadium Business Awards. Rootes was recognized in 2017 as the first-ever Houston Business Journal's Business Person of the Year after serving as chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership. In 2019, he was selected as one of Houston Business Journal's Most Admired CEOs. Earlier this year, Rootes was recognized as the 2020 Steinberg/DeNicola NFL Humanitarian of the Year. Rootes served on the Super Bowl Host Committees in 2004 and 2017 and was also appointed deputy chairman of two public boards for Super Bowl LI in 2017. He led the efforts to secure the Texans appearance in the first-ever Monday Night Football game to be played in Mexico which helped to elevate Houston's visibility on an international scale. Rootes maintains an active role in the community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Houston Partnership and the United Way of Greater Houston. He also oversees the activities of the Houston Texans Foundation whose mission is to be "Champions for Youth. The Houston Texans Foundation has donated more than $36 million since its inception in 2002 through annual fundraising events, disaster response programs, the team's United Way campaign and partnerships with nonprofit organizations on gameday. Widely regarded as the top recruit in the nation in high school, Gemelos has overcome a number of knee injuries throughout her college career at USC to go on to be drafted in the third round of the 2012 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. Despite her injuries, sustaining 5 ACL tears in 6 years, Gemelos remained one of the most skilled players in the game, won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2011 World University Games, and is a former National Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American. Jacki continues to play overseas and in 2020 signed with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and Washington Mystic. Jacki was born November 22, 1988, in Stockton, California. She is the daughter of Linda and Steve Gemelos. She has two sisters, Johnna and Zayna. Her father Steve Gemelos, of Greek descent, played college basketball at Weber State and San Joaquin Delta, followed by two years of professional basketball in Greece.
