In 1959, 9 people were hiking through the Ural Mountains in Russia. Night was approaching, so they pitched a tent and settled for the night. What happened next is debated, but what we know for sure is that during the night, all 9 of them fled the safety of their tent, into the snowy darkness, and perished in the freezing conditions. Some had succumbed to hypothermia, but others were found with gruesome injuries.
