Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch audiobook.

Genre: romance

The framing story concerns a man who dreams of speaking to Venus about love while she wears furs. The unnamed narrator tells his dreams to a friend, Severin, who tells him how to break him of his fascination with cruel women by reading a manuscript, Memoirs of a Supersensual Man.

This manuscript tells of a man, Severin von Kusiemski, so infatuated with a woman, Wanda von Dunajew, that he requests to be treated as her slave, and encourages her to treat him in progressively more degrading ways. At first Wanda does not understand or relate to the request, but after humouring Severin a bit she finds the advantages of the method to be interesting and enthusiastically embraces the idea; though at the same time, she disdains Severin for allowing her to do so.

The Three Hostages by John Buchan audiobook.

Genre: thriller

Years after his earlier adventures, Richard Hannay is enjoying the quiet life of a country gentleman when an unexpected visitor shatters his peace: a renowned American doctor with a strange gift for reading minds and a warning about a new kind of enemy. Three people have been taken, not for ransom or politics, but as pieces in a far-reaching scheme that uses fear, persuasion, and psychological control as weapons. Hannay, drawn back into danger by duty and curiosity, is tasked with finding the captives before time runs out and before the plot behind their disappearance tightens its grip on society. From drawing rooms and lonely country roads to shadowed corners of the city and the Highlands, Hannay follows a trail of coded clues, evasive witnesses, and unsettling performances that blur the line between entertainment and manipulation. As he works alongside allies old and new, he must confront an adversary who prefers to corrupt the will rather than break the body, and who may already have influence where Hannay least expects it.

Sylvie and Bruno by Lewis Carroll audiobook.

Genre: fantasy

In Sylvie and Bruno, Lewis Carroll steps beyond Wonderland into a stranger, more intricate dream: a Victorian narrator who drifts between everyday England and a shimmering Fairyland, sometimes in the space of a single conversation. In the enchanted realm, the gentle child Sylvie and her irrepressible companion Bruno discover that their country is in peril - not from dragons, but from the small, sharp evils of vanity, bureaucracy, and ambition. As rumors and rivalries gather around the throne, the two friends are drawn into a struggle that tests courage, kindness, and what it really means to do the right thing when rules and justice no longer align. Meanwhile, in the narrator's waking life, polite society and modern ideas collide in drawing rooms and on country walks: questions of faith, science, charity, and love are argued with wit and wonder. Blending fairy tale adventure, social satire, and Carroll's taste for paradox and playful logic, this book invites you to listen for the thin seam where imagination and reality meet - and to decide which world is the truer one.
