Two Poe Tales by Edgar Allan Poe audiobook.

Genre: comedy

Two Poe Tales gathers two of Edgar Allan Poe's sharpest, funniest send-ups of the very Gothic sensationalism he helped popularize: How to Write a Blackwood Article and its companion tale, A Predicament. In the first story, the ambitious and delightfully self-important Signora Psyche Zenobia sets out to become a literary sensation by following the strict, absurd recipe for publishing in Blackwood's Magazine, where suffering, heightened emotion, and lurid detail are treated like ingredients in a foolproof formula. Armed with advice on how to manufacture dread and astonishment on cue, Zenobia launches into her own attempt at fashionable terror. The second tale puts that formula to the test in the real world, as Zenobia and her long-suffering servant find themselves drawn into an escalating misadventure that is equal parts melodrama and farce. With playful narration, exaggerated horror tropes, and sly commentary on taste, authorship, and literary gatekeeping, these two pieces reveal Poe not only as a master of the macabre, but also as a gleeful satirist who knew exactly how (and why) readers loved to be frightened.

Fighting the Flying Circus by Eddie Rickenbacker audiobook.

Genre: biography

In Fighting the Flying Circus, Eddie Rickenbacker - the American ace who rose from a hard-scrabble childhood and a career in racing to the cockpit of a fighter plane - recounts his World War I service with vivid, ground-level immediacy. Thrown into the new and terrifying world of aerial combat, Rickenbacker describes the steep learning curve of flying fragile machines, the strain of constant patrols, and the split-second decisions that separate survival from disaster. At the heart of the story is his drive to master both the mechanics of flight and the psychology of combat, while coping with loss, fear, and the pressure of being counted on by his squadron. The book follows his path from eager volunteer to seasoned pilot as he faces the legendary German airmen Americans nicknamed the 'Flying Circus,' and as he wrestles with what courage really costs. Part memoir, part combat chronicle, it is a firsthand account of a war fought above the trenches - where victory depends on skill, nerve, and the will to keep climbing back into the sky.

A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs audiobook.

Genre: scifi

When American soldier and adventurer John Carter flees into the Arizona wilderness, a strange accident sweeps him far beyond Earth to the dying world of Barsoom - Mars - where thinner air, brutal deserts, and ancient rivalries shape every breath. Gifted with extraordinary strength and agility under the planet's lesser gravity, Carter is quickly pulled into a conflict he barely understands: nomadic, four-armed Green Martians war against the more human Red Martians who cling to their fading cities and lost sciences. Captured by the fierce Tharks and forced to prove himself in their harsh society, Carter must navigate alien customs, shifting loyalties, and the politics of a planet on the brink. His fate becomes entangled with Dejah Thoris, a proud and resourceful princess of Helium, whose courage matches his own and whose people face looming destruction. As armies gather and old technologies awaken, Carter must decide what kind of man he will be on a world that can make him a hero - or a conqueror. Sweeping, fast-paced, and bursting with wonder, this is a classic tale of romance, daring battles, and survival on an alien frontier.
