Arm of the Law by Harry Harrison audiobook.

Genre: scifi

On the dusty margins of Mars, Nineport is a place people pass through, not a place they build. Its police station reflects that truth: a bored, graft-friendly chief, a couple of unreliable patrolmen, and one seasoned sergeant trying to keep the town from sliding completely into chaos. Then a coffin-sized crate arrives from Earth, addressed to the department with no warning and a promise of 'field testing.' Inside is Ned, a police experimental robot in a crisp, blue-painted uniform and armed with a literal-minded zeal for duty. At first, Ned is treated like expensive maintenance equipment, sweeping floors and sorting paperwork while the human cops get on with surviving Nineport. But when an armed robbery call comes in and the chief takes the lazy way out, Ned is sent into the street to do a cop's job. In a town where criminals operate under protection and everyone knows the name China Joe, one perfectly efficient machine is enough to upset every fragile arrangement. As violence flares and authority is challenged, the sergeant must decide what law enforcement means when the 'arm of the law' is made of metal, wiring, and unbreakable logic.

The Brand of Silence by Harrington Strong audiobook.

Genre: mystery

Harrington Strong was a pseudonym used by author Johnston McCulley, creator of the character Zorro and many others. The Brand of Silence - A Detective Story finds Sidney Prale returning to New York after ten years during which he sought his fortune. But he finds New York a very changed place, and even more distressing, he finds that his old friends are now turning their backs on him, his old haunts no longer welcome him, and there seems to be a conspiracy against him.

Why can't he receive service in hotels, restaurants, and theaters that he once frequented? Who is working against him? And just as importantly, why? And what is the meaning of the notes he receives which remind him of 'retribution'?

Planet of the Damned by Harry Harrison audiobook.

Genre: scifi

On the ice-bound world of Anvhar, society survives a brutal climate by channeling ambition into the Twenties - a planet-wide contest that crowns the most capable mind and body of a generation. Brion Brandd has just won, and he expects rest, acclaim, and a quiet recovery. Instead, a former champion named Ihjel pulls him into an off-world emergency: on the desert planet Dis, the ruling magter have provoked a crisis so extreme that neighboring Nyjord is preparing to stop them with nuclear force. With millions of lives poised on a countdown, Brion is recruited for a mission no diplomat or soldier has been able to solve. His edge is unusual: an amplified empathy that lets him read people and situations with unsettling clarity - a gift that becomes as dangerous as it is useful once he is trapped amid Dis's heat, scarcity, and violence.
