An Iron Will by Orison Swett Marden audiobook.
Genre: self help
In An Iron Will, Orison Swett Marden, one of the founding voices of the modern success movement, makes a spirited case that the strongest force a person can cultivate is not luck, talent, or circumstance, but a trained and steadfast will. Through brisk chapters packed with vivid examples, memorable maxims, and stories of ordinary people facing extraordinary pressures, Marden explores how determination is built, tested, and strengthened. He examines the quiet moments when character is formed: resisting discouragement, refusing excuses, mastering habits, and holding to a purpose when comfort and fear pull the other way. Along the way, he challenges readers to replace drifting with decision, to turn setbacks into fuel, and to practice daily self-command in work, study, and relationships. Direct, motivating, and intensely practical, this book invites you to see willpower as a skill you can forge through discipline and moral courage. For anyone who feels stuck, tempted to quit, or overwhelmed by obstacles, An Iron Will offers a blueprint for becoming the kind of person who finishes what they start.

Cupid's Cyclopedia by Oliver Herford audiobook.
Genre: comedy
In Cupid's Cyclopedia, humorist and illustrator Oliver Herford (with fellow artist John Cecil Clay) turns the most unpredictable human subject - love - into a mock reference book that is equal parts dictionary, satire, and valentine. Framed as Cupid's own guide to romance, the book trots through the alphabet, offering brisk entries on everything from affection and adoration to jealousy, jilt, and kiss, each definition sharpened into a punchline or a sly bit of wisdom. Herford treats letters like zodiac signs, imagines origins for words with straight-faced absurdity, and skewers courtship rituals with a light touch that stays playful even when it gets pointed. The wit is joined by illustrations that act like visual asides, amplifying the jokes and giving the whole volume the feel of an old-fashioned gift book. After the A-to-Z tour, the mischief expands into Amoria, a tongue-in-cheek travelogue to an invented land where the customs of love are observed like anthropology. The result is a charming, quotable audiobook perfect for listeners who enjoy clever language, social comedy, and a whimsical take on the eternal complications of the heart.

The Age of the Condottieri - A Short History of Mediaeval Italy from 1409-1530 by Oscar Browning audiobook.
Genre: history
Italy from 1409 to 1530 is synonymous with the Renaissance, but this was also the age of the condottieri, Italian captains of mercenary companies and multinational armies who fought in the service of city states, monarchs, and the Pope. Some like Ludovico Sforza in Milan seized power and founded dynasties in their own right. The merchant princes of the Medici family reached their apogee in Lorenzo the Magnificent in Florence, but faltered in the Papacy; Leo X proved no match for Martin Luther and Clement VII was powerless to avert the sack of Rome in 1527. Venice lost her overseas empire to the Turks, while proud King Francis I, defeated by the Emperor Charles and a prisoner in Madrid, was eventually forced to relinquish all hope of Italian conquest.
